Today, I’m getting personal. Last year had it’s fair share of ups and downs when it came to my health, work, and life. However, many of the challenges I faced led me to learn a few life lessons that have set me on a path of enlightenment. (Did that sound zen and crunchy enough?)
I’ll never be perfect, but I’ve finally realized the benefits of living life focused on wellness. Since the beginning of the year, I have become super focused on living a cleaner, greener, non-toxic life. The mister and I are cooking more, using essential oils, prefer using green cleaning products, and I started practicing yoga. I particularly decided I needed to make these changes because I was feeling sluggish, unhealthy and just not quite myself. As soon as we started to make a few changes, I quickly noticed a difference. Eliminating toxins is important to the two of us, especially given the mister is exposed to so many in his career. [For insights into fume events on airlines, read this.] We also both have food sensitivities that we aren’t honoring. Thus, causing a long list of issues that could be avoidable.
Once I realized how many toxins were floating around our home, I started to look at other products we used that may be toxic. Using the Environmental Working Group app, I started scanning my makeup products. Lo’ and behold, they were crawling with toxins. This was more than alarming since these are the products I use everyday! A change was in order and this is where Beautycounter came in. I read about Beautycounter in goop, and knowing they are stamped with approval by Gwyneth, and previously sold at Target and J.Crew, I knew they were a reputable brand. I purchased some products from a sweet friend, and given I liked them so much, after a few months decided to become a consultant myself.
Beautycounter, is committed to a health and safety standard that goes well beyond what is legally required in the United States. Which, by the way, standards in the US are lacking. There are only 11 banned ingredients for the beauty industry. Beautycounter however, created The Never List™ which is made up of more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals that they will never use as ingredients in their products.
What’s even better is that although Beautycounter may eliminate many of these toxic chemicals they do not compromise performance. I absolutely love my BC products! A few of my favorites are the Dew Skin Moisturizer, the Day Cream (which acts as my moisturizer/primer), the Charcoal Mask and the Lip Sheers. BC also has a Baby and Kids line, one day I’ll add these to my collection! They are constantly innovating, so keep your eyes out for new product launches.
